Here is recent Spy shot of the Lotus Esprit, due by December 2009. Lotus is building a new generation of its supercar. It is believed that the new Lotus will have a V8 engine delivering over 400 bhp. The car will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009 and will be sold at a price around 97.000 euro. The preliminary sketches, by Russel Carr at Lotus, are not the final design but an indication of what the car might look like. Lotus has confirmed the car will be made in England, at the Hethel factory. The car will use a similar Aluminium bonded chassis technology to the Elise, but the car's platform will not be model specific, so it can be used for various Lotus models, this they have call VVA (Variable Vehicle Architecture).

Very cool. Do you know why they were testing in it the Netherlands instead of the UK? .....maybe they thought no one would expect them over there?

The Koni shockabsorbers are Dutch made, that will be the reason for testing in The Netherlands I guess.

No, no, no.

Lotus needs to at least get back in the Supercar game in 2007 terms.

97,000 euros is what, $140,000 by today's exchange rate?

Only 400 hp?

That's not going to cut it, especially since the car will still likely be full of those Lotus compromises that make it a Lotus.

By the time this thing comes out in 2009, it'll technologically be competitive with 2006 supercars.

Not being a cynic, I'm a die hard Lotus fan (and current/past owner of 7 vintage and current Lotus). Well, maybe I am being cynical.

...Spyker tie....
No way, Spycker has (had) dreams about buying Lotus but like in real life, you will need money to fulfill your dreams, or investors that are happy to give you some money. Spyker has financial problems and will have a big problem finding new investors.

Thanks for the link.
IMO it looks like a 348 Ferrari. Not evolutionary.
Step up Lotus. Set the pace again.
