Would have thought a Targa version was the better way to go?
Like the bit about the room for a possible supercharger installation and 0.60 in under 4 seconds.:checkeredflag:

Seems a bit odd to me that Lotus is stepping away from the turbo world of power. Especially with bio desil a possibility in the future? In every race application when a super charger has been put against a turbo charger... turbo wins. Ask Cale Banks. Do not get me wrong here... I like super chargers and have no issue with them... it is just that Lotus has a history with turbo chargers going back the glory days of F1.

It's interesting to me that they go ahead and map it all out and then tell the public. If you don't follow your plan, I would imagine that there are people out there that would flame them for it.
I agree with something Wayne posted a long time back. What ever happened to the days of surprising us with something at the show instead of leaking it out one bit at a time. I guess the world has become too small.

Isnt it called viral advertising now (which used to be called word of mouth)?
They throw out a scrap of info to get us all talking and sit back and guage the reaction.
Its cheap (costs Lotus next to nothing) and the results are in fast.
The supercharger makes sense to me, they develop boost straight away which gives great torque out of small engines. Turbos are neat too,(and ultimately develop more power than a supercharger due to less parasitic loss) but you have the lag factor (soggy bottom end) and sudden power delivery that can catch out a not so good driver) and of course the enormous amount of heat they throw off (bad in a small engine compartment)but I think on the street a blower is the way to go.I drove a new Europa a couple of years ago, and liked the powertrain in that car (gutsy).
The new generation Eaton superchargers are compact and light, and dont require as much power to drive them, unlike the older types.

We (some car club guys here) put a centrifugal supercharger on a Mazda Miata. I liked it. It was much more compact that the Roots or Jackson screw type supercharger and fit neatly in as itis pretty much the same size as a turbo...

:001_unsure: Agree with the SC advantages, but the Europa's a turbo car.

Always wondered if that would be a good way to make up for the turbo lag on the older turbo's? Then, plumb the AC so that cold air would blow straight into the intake...? If only I had some R&D money!

Saw a Ferrari 308GTB that was converted to a Turbo by a British company called Turbo Technics ages ago ,and that had an intercooler that was basically an second A/C evaporator that was plumbed into the factory system.
Worked pretty good as I recollect.:)

Yes it was only sold new in two countries, Italy and New Zealand as they had heavy taxation for cars that displaced over 2 litres.
I think it was the smallest V8 ever installed in a road car also a 2 litre(beating the Daimler V8 by being 500cc smaller)
A Turbo Esprit would still hand one of those things its lunch!

So true, those things could hardly get out of their own way!
