Come on... a block and sand, some paint, a little time, a marriage or two, and some money - it could be as nice as the one in the Barber Museum!

It only needs some T-Cut,it never ceases to amaze me that people keep these things meaning to do something with them for all their lives and then the first thing to be done is get rid all the stuff that was collected.A chap I know has several barns full and would not part with a rusty nut, from tanks to planes ,Rolls,Bentleys ,every car and motorbike known to man.Clockwork :)

They hardly ever come up for sale in restorable shape and RHD form like this one.:)
Mrs. Barratt says I have to stop buying cars for a while till she gets her new house.:(
gawd, it was even white when it was new (my favourite colour for an Elite):crying:

Yes... go for the house. If you look around I am sure can locate a house you will like as much as that Elite. Say a nice little 1200 sqr/ft with a 4000 sqr/ft garage with 12 foot ceilings - climate control - outfitted by Griots Garage and Craftsman by the previous owner - glass racks and cabinates for displaying related items - 4 post lift....
Yes... go for the house.

I'm afraid to ask what his reserve price might be.
I have been looking for series 1 and 2 Elites for 2 years now. That car is going to take some serious $$$$$$$$$$$$ to get into "driver" condition, let alone something nice. I'm afraid that he believes he has more car than he does. I've seen it too many times. We'll see I guess.
I have an acquaintance who spent about $100K cash on restoring a '61 in the '90s and into early 2000. His car now is worth about $20K less than that 8 years later although it is appreciating in value. Not a good return on an investment. It seemed to be in about the same shape as this one.
It makes me hurt to see these cars rotting. It's like child abandonment. Maybe I should adopt it. Anyone want to chip in? It would be restored and placed in the museum. Anyone who chips in will get free admission and rides for life :steeringwheel:.

I don't think anyone is going to buy it for an investment. Unfortunately those days are gone. But it will be interesting to see what someone is willing to pay and as you said Road Dad, what is he willing to let it go for....? People usually seem to think their junk is worth more then anyone elses junk :) ...not to say that is junk.

The cost of profesionally restoring most cars is usually more than they are worth when finished , thats pretty normal.
Exceptions are some of the mega rare, high dollar units (still expensive to restore, but whats $500,000 when the cars worth a million?
Some restoration shops are adopting a ploy where as they give you the car for free (on condition you have it restored in there shop at a hourly rate plus parts)
This particular Elite would make a good project for an experienced DIY restorer who can do most of the work himself/herself.
Unlike other hobbies that cost money, at least you would have something to show for it in the end!:)
