I found this on the Club Bimmer forum: ...is that true? If so that has got to be disheartening.

If you're planning to come up and visit in Canada, be warned there's an idiotic new law in Ontario that came into effect Oct. 1.
Anyone and everyone caught speeding by 50 km/h (about 30 m.p.h.) over the limit faces IMMEDIATE and NON-PROTESTABLE drivers licence suspension for 1 week, plus your car is CONFISCATED for 1 week.
There is no appeal.
This also applies, at the officer's discretion, to anyone driving "dangerously to the public, involved in any type of speed contest, driving aggresively (i.e. abrupt lane changes or following too closely), or showing off (notably doing donuts, or wheelies on motorcycles)".
The first weekend there were 28 cars confiscated, including 2 rental cars (!) driving over 150 km/h. Thats 90 mph.
So we'd love you to come visit, but be careful out there.
Anybody know where I can get a job in the U.S.?????

Yes Martin, unfortunately it is true.

Its part of a new law aimed primarily at street racers, but is being used against anyone who engages in "spirited driving" or even in some cases cars they suspect are being used to street race.

About couple of months ago a some visiting Americans had their late model modified Corvettes confiscated in the Newmarket area.

Now everytime you nail the throttle, you gotta worry about the cops misconstruing (spelling) what you are doing for some "very" unlawful act.

Well what happened was that the media were all over some accidents that were caused by some idiots who were racing on busy streets used by the public, so the current provincial government passed this new law giving the Police "9-11" type powers to impound cars that are used to streetrace.

Of course as you pointed out Martin, it does make me nervous to think that just because I am passing a slower car it could be construed as a "race" and the police could take my car.

Hopefully when the first cases reach the courts , they will test this law and maybe cases will be thrown out due to lack of evidence that they were actually engaged in a race.

Just saw this as I was perusing (spelling) the forum.
Has their been any rediculous applications of this law that you have heard of lately?

Something I will photograph and post on here is a large billboard that has been errected on HWY 401 in Oshawa, warning of the $15,000 fine and siezure of your car If caught going over 150kmh (100kph limit).

A few of the chaps have noticed it and are quite worried!:crying:

Advisors and leaders know nothing and they prove it everyday. The above is just one example!

Blond, arrogant, and worth something in the 10 million range more than 99% of those jack-assed, full of crap, self serving, liberal big federal government blow hards that are currently on the hill in Washington. Do not even get me started of the damn press:mad: - Aljazeera does a better job than any of the major networks here....

Pretty much though, it seems that all sides are currently full of crap at the end of the day.

Tax and spend Dems that want to take away my freedoms... OR... borrow and spend Republicans that want to take away my freedoms. No real win....:nono:

It's been a very long time since I traveled that route but I do distinctly remember being passed like I was standing still while driving just a few clicks over the speed limit.
I had never encountered limits in kph untill then and my car at the time did not list metric. Good thing I was a school boy type at the time and could do the conversion. At first pass I read it as 100mph and thought "wow! these guys like to go fast!"
Amazing how ties have changed.
