Putrajaya, Malaysia - Bernama, October 9. 2007-- The Malaysian government says it will ensure that Proton Holdings' strategic partnership with the German car maker Volkswagen AG will be a win-win situation.
So far no decisions have been made on the matter yet, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said when responding to a question on whether he has set a date to meet the chief executive officer of Volkswagen.
According to a local report, the CEO of the German automaker, Martin Winterkorn, would be travelling to Malaysia to meet personally with the prime minister although the exact date for the discussion is yet to be set.
"I am meeting only when a decision has been made," he told reporters after chairing a meeting on the progress of the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) here today.
Abdullah said there had been many meetings, "but we have not finalised yet our agreement on any particular issue.
"So whatever subject if they want to speculate about at the moment is solely a subject of discussion," he said.
Asked on what was hindering the decision, Abdullah said: "We want to have this decision as soon as possible, but they have to take time.
"They want to be certain about everything, so we want to make very sure. They will be putting a lot of money, so they want to be sure," he added.
