Good to hear from you Kylies ....
I see that you finally have the "Silver Missile".... all road legal and now wanting to take it for a long drive and giving it a holiday ......er .
I have been pretty occupied ... still try and manage to get the Gcar for a bit of a spin every month or so ... then put it back in its box..
Last month i had my bro come over from Perth ...So decided to take him for a spin up the hills.........then i noticed the temp guage REALLY GOING UP THE SCALE  It has never done that b4 .... pulling over ... noticed a lot of steam out the engine bay .......
Finding that hose from water pump 2 inlet manifold ..... had a split in it .... not being able to fix it or actually see it to get to it .. filled up a couple of containers of water and limped home .. topping up as we went .
So at the moment ... i have changed that little bugger (without pulling most of the car apart).
So i am looking at the radiator end and finding hoses and cutting to suit .
Then i may as well put .... new distilled water and coolant in ......
Then deciding
1.. Distilled water and Coolant with Ethylene Glycol
or
2. Distilled water and Redline Water Wetter
So many people with their ideas on what is best ......
What do most peolpe use ......?
Not forgetting Queensland get a little warm in summer :icon18::cowboy:
Where did this site come from ...was it created or evolved ???

Hi the site has been created and over a year or so old now. Its really growing in numbers and good thing about it its for all models of Lotus and not model specific. It seems to really work and theres some great people here. One of our regular G car experts has gone to the UK for a week. But as a rule I use the best coolant I can afford which is the Castrol brand of coolant. about $40 for 4L at Super Cheap Auto which you guys have too. The rule of thumb is to never mix coolants in any car so drain it out and put fresh stuff in there and stick to it.
I had to replace all my hoses on the 89 Turbo as they started making fountains as you describe  So while your there do the lot. I just went shopping at Repco and got several metres of high pressured fuel line pipe of the same thickness and new SS clips. Identical stuff and the job was easy.

Thanks Kylies
Yes im working my way thru Gcar ....Probably have to get a couple of hoses from SJS .... starting the top radiator hose... and charged for it
Never thought about fuel lines ?
I have got 4 litres of Holden coolant concentrate..... so will go with that ......
As i have had it may as well us it ....eh
Yes i like this site.. like most things the more you use it .. the easier it becomes to float around it..
Oh yes .. maybe you can remember .. when you had your 89.. it was HC ... what brand cam/timing belt did you use ... as im still pi###ing about thinking about a cambelt change ..... First i have to get one ... the correct one
Must dash ... "you can call me anything ... but late for tea "

I know JAE stocks the square toothed belt and the round toothed belt. Not sure if you have a more local source... as in your side of the planet local? I changed mine out on schedule a few months back and the belt they sent was the "longer life belt"... upon carful inspection there is more cross hatch (kevlar?) on the toothed side so it generates an interesting buzz sound. I was worried about it for some time as I could not figure out why it was buzzing. Usually this is an indication that the tension is not spec... but it was. After so time I figured it out. We got similar belts for the 308 soon after and it made the same sound... So, if you get one of the newer ones... it might make some buzzing you are not used to hearing?

Alternatively to what Cameron said, ring your nearest Lotus specialist in Oz and ask for the alternative ref part number. I never had to change my belts on the 89 as they were not long done before I bought it. It was the carb Turbo model not HC :)
If you think you need to change them, just do it!
I have to figure out how to get to the auxillary belt on mine which needs doing.

Hi Pomoz, welcome to the site and I'm glad you finally found us. :)
As Kylie said, the site has been around for a year. I started the website along with Bill (site owner) with the idea that there should be a Lotus forum that isn't dedicated to one or two particular Lotus models and that it shouldn't be focused on one country. So here we are now a year later with a dedicated following of Lotus owners of all sorts.

Also, glad that you got me thinking about this again. I will be opening up a section just for the Australia/ New Zealand region as you all seem like a great bunch and are stronger in numbers than many. I had planned on doing this a long while back and I forgot, but as I said this site is meant to be international and open to all.

Kylie, I am quite sure it is like everything else. Have a good look at the motor and determine what can be removed without pulling the motor. Then, take all of it off the car. This seems to be the way of all things mechanical when there are parts that need to be serviced. The parts you must remove are almost never parts that require any service, so this is a good place to start - with the parts that need nothing. Once everything that can be removed is removed, the belt can be removed and replaced! Whahahahaaa (evil laugh)
