I was talking via email to the chap in England who bought the 18 I used to work on a couple of years ago.

Heres his website, the 18 is in the top R/H corner
http://www.davidgathercole.co.uk/

His wife races it at the Goodwood Revival every year , chassis no 702 was the second 18 FJ built and was an official team Lotus car that was driven by Trevor Taylor (and Jim Clark)

This one is a much later car with not all that significant a history, but still would be a fun car to own/drive and race.:)

Always amazes me when I see how these cars made it all over the world and still survive today.

Not a very aesthetically pleasing racecar though (I always thought they looked like a green Potato), but very roomy and comfortable inside .

Did you notice that the fuel tank is in the front of the car suspended over the drivers crotch and legs and only held in with bungee straps?

Wow, that is scary!!! No, that is actually horrific. Even if you were to just have a small front end accident in even something as simple as historic racing....

We have a 18 running in CVAR regularly. He does run it in the slower group reserved for rare and aged cars. It is a tiny car.

Do you know if he runs the bungie cord setup? Atleast for racing, I would put in a cell, but maybe that's not allowed.....?

Phil Lamont the Canadian Dunlop Historic Racing tyre distributor has been racing his 18 for as long as I can remember (20 years).

He is a nice guy,a great driver and often beats alot of cars that are much newer and quicker than his 50 year old 18.

Last time I saw it the fuel tank was still held in by bungies.:)

Just found this pic of my old mate Duncan Baker driving his dad Dicks 18 back in the late 80's. Its chassis no.702 the 2nd 18 built (originally a Team Lotus car diven by Trevor Taylor/Jim Clark).

It is now back in the UK and run by Dave Gaviscole and his wife Lorraine.
