A man clocked by police driving at 173mph in a 50mph zone avoided jail after his defence team said his sports car was incapable of travelling that fast. Officers recorded the remarkable speed for Tex O'Reilly's Lotus Elise as he drove along a country

Makes you wonder doesn't it.....it's ok for the police to just make a statement as to how fast you were going.
What if the guy had been in a Gallardo and was doing 105mph just like this guy in the Elise but because the Gallardo can do 173, would he then just have had to take it!?

I cannot understand why he admitted speeding in the first place,if they had muttered in my shell like"did you know you where doing 173 mph sir" I`d have demanded they breathalyse the lot of them and X ray their heads for brains,the road I know well as I used to live just off it and it really is countryside,only problems were sheep crossing ,now under a blanket speed limit for revenue raising.Clockwork :mad:

The cop was probaby so exicited that he swapped the 7 with the 3.

I was just looking up the top speeds of the Elise and Exige models and seem to find the figures all over the place, 127 ,150 , 148 , 132 .

Whats the real official top speed of those cars?:confused:

It`s possible they had it set on kph instead of mph.Clockwork :)

Think you are on to something there with the Kph mistake, that puts him at 106mph (and he admitted going 105 mph):icon15:

They are all correct depending on the physical stature of the driver and the state of the gas tank:D
