Against Wayne's sage advice I replaced the rear A frame bushing with a soft rated Polyurethane bushing. My rear axle does have a small leak and I was hoping the Polyurethane would be less affected. However after less than 200 miles the new bushing has been sliced in half just like the rubber bushing. However being more slippery than the original rubber bushing half of it catapulted out leaving me to creep home. I was lucky this only happened a few turns from home or it would have been another flatbed.

I can't help feeling something else could be at play here, perhaps engine/tranny mounts???
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Eeek! not good, check the trailing arm bushes,it reads as if the axle is trying to twist.Clockwork :)

Andy at this point I would check the engine gearbox mounts and also the lower A frame and trailing links for straighness. Also the shape of the other bushes as Clockwork suggested . I would also have a good look at the trailing link /A frame attachment points on the frame for signs of damage/missalignment.

Another possibility is that the A frame attachment point on the axle is out of alignment (it is a weak point and may have been replaced and rewelded on in the wrong place)

Using the harder poly bushings may have magnified a pre-existing axle alignment problem the car may have.

Whatever you do be careful about using a harder duro poly bush. Too hard and you could end up cracking the frame. Bushes often need to work through omni-angulations and not just pivot up and down on the same plane.

Hello Amadeu, hood supports for the S4 are one of the reasons for the end of the S4 production, the original suppliers would not supply them at an affordable price,I hope I am wrong but I think you will have to make it yourself. Clockwork. :)
