Youre looking at the first pictures of Lotus new 45,000 GT model. Codenamed Eagle, the four-seat mid-sized coupe is the companys most important model since the original Elise, and our spies caught it out in the open for the first time earlier this week.

The wheelbase looks the same as the Test mule that the magazines were claiming to be the new Esprit a couple of years ago.

If this car is a four seater, can someone tell me where the engine and transaxle are located?

...I forgot to add that it looks like a wide flat (old) Fiero to me.
How many designers look at that car and say, "Been there, done that." ?

Martin, the registration numbers are different on both cars and I doubt Lotus would have gone to the trouble of re-registering the original "Esprit" mule as a new car (after painting it a different colour) , so the chassis has probably been altered to accomodate the extra interior volume for the two extra seats.

Im betting though that the "Elite" and the "Esprit" will be sharing alot of components (chassis/suspension/windshield/ dash etc). to amortise the cost of development over the two models.
