Winter Nationals Dag Meet pics - Australia

Hi guys just a few pics to share, we went over to see some Loti friends who moved to Redlands just south of Brisbane nearly a year ago. They hooked up some tickets for us to see the Winter Nationals Drag meet at Willowbank. I have never seen Top fuel cars run in the flesh before up so close, they are so loud its scary, they make Top alcohol look and sound like childs play!!! They said this was the biggest race meeting out of North America, quite simply because it is…also running a full ¼ mile.
There was pretty much a full line up of: Top Fuel, Nitro Funny cars, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Top Bike – Kiwis won this !! Pro Stock, Pro Bike, then lower groups of Comp bike, Comp, Super stock, Super compact, Super charged Outlaws – very cool indeedy!! Modified super sedeans, Super street, Mod bike, Junior Dragster, Super gas.

Blurry night shot of top Fuel. Tried to capture massive flames shooting out off the start line, this was a fluke to see anything at all Lol so fast.

I must admit (with shame) I havent been to the drags for about 15 years, used to go to Long Marson and Santa Pod in the UK.

We have a local Drag strip at Shannonville which I used to frequent a while ago, but the quality of vehicle (mostly clapped out 5.0 Mustangs)and IQ of 99% of the paticipants was too low for me to get excited about it.:(

Hi there, yes ear protection is a must, even cruising around the pit areas, I got a hell of a fright walking past a Top fuel tent when they started one up and blipped the throttle, I rekon my heart jumped out of my chest,....ok not scientifically possible but must have caused an irregular beat for sure :lol:

Yes the kiwis were represented there and did well. Many kiwis make the flight over for this event plus Bathhurst V8 supercars, F1 and Indy brings us across too. :yes:

I know what you mean a bout the class of people, went to a local meet last year to watch Top Alcohol running and must have attracted every bogan out of the closet. Oddly enough the Willowbank meet had none of that chest beating mentality there. Was a really nice family atmosphere.
