I still have no idea why the Lotus management chose the Evora name for this car though.

The name hasn't grown on me at all .

Elite or Ethos would have made better choices IMO.:)

I would have balked hard at Elite. They have used this name already and I really hate it when a totally different car gets tagged with a great car name from the past. It is just a plain cheap stab at marketing unless the car has a lot to do with evoking or connecting with the previous car. For example, while very different, the new Challenger is a Challenger and so should be called by name. The Pontiac GTO on the other hand was a mistake in name. As such, the new Esprit had damn sure better have some identifiable Esprit DNA IMO.

I have warmed up to the name Evora a little, but I did not hate it to begin with either. I am still wondering if there is a "Type number" associated with
the Evora...

My favourite Lotus name is definately Elan, followed by Etna,Excel, Esprit , Elite and Elise.

Names I dont care for are Exige,Europa, Evora and Eclat.

The Ethos name was good, they should have gone ahead and used that name instead of Evora IMO.

Cool poster!

The Evora is OK, but what do I know... At least it wasn't called "The Homer"

The owner of the first Lotus Evora sold to the public, pulls into his local petrol station to fill up and an interested member of the public comes over to question him..........

Q "What kind of car is that?"

A "Its a Lotus Evora"

Q "What is or does Evora mean"

A " Its a city in Portugal"

Q " Do they or did they hold a Grand Prix or some kind of motoring event there?"

A"errrr No"

Q"Then what significance does the name have concerning the car?"

A" Well it begines with a E, all Lotus car names begin with that letter"

Q "Yes but why Evora ?"

A"Dunno Mate, you will have to ask Mike Kimberley the CEO of Lotus for the answer to that one":crying:

Thanks, Eurosport, I read that apparent explanation for the name in one of the car mags a while ago.:)

Take 2.

The owner of the first Lotus Evora sold to the public , pulls into his local petrol station to fill up and an interested member of the public comes over to question him.........

Q "Nice car mate, what is it?"

A "It be the new Lotus Evora ,old chap"

Q "What's Evora mean?"

A "Well it's not named after that god awful place in Portugal for a start, its a combination of the Evolution of Lotus, The Vogue of the time and last but not least The Cars Tremendous Aura"

Q " That all sounds like a right load of made up Bollocks to me, whats the real explanation"

A"errr I dunno"
