I hope you guys took the time to visit the Grand Prix Museum whilst you were at Donnington!:)

How long have you owned your Silver Excel?

How does it perform with the ZF automatic , do you prefer it over a manual version?

Had the Excel a little over three years, a great eBay find.

The auto box is a treat.
Under load the change up keeps you right in the power band.
It took a little practice to get the kickdown timing right for overtaking.

I'd not change her for a manual.

I am a fan of automatics to!:)

I had noticed that a few Lotus enthusiasts were getting more than a bit bent up out of shape over the announcement that the new Lotus "Eagle" (Elite?) would be available with an SMG gearbox (paddle shift).

Hopefully it will be able to be used in full auto mode so when you are stuck in slow moving traffic , you can just let it shift for itself.

I have spent a lot of time in a Vanquish with the Graziano SMG, and it made a lot of sense (to me)

Don't get me wrong, I love a nicely timed heel and toe downshift , but I hate sitting in a traffic jam with my foot on the clutch so I can crawl forwards a few feet at a time.

And before I'm crucified by the hard core Lotus manual gearbox guys, did you know Colin Chapman had automatics in most of his daily drivers?
