I was just over on the wrecked exotics site and was quite amazed to see over 8 pages of wrecked Elise photos.

Before I saw that I would have been pretty sure the Esprit held the title for most crashed Lotus, but at only 2 pages its lagging behind.:(

Least crashed Lotus has to be the Evora, only 1 wrecked to date(as far as I know):)

I remember reading that almost half the first lot of NSX's were wrecked by auto journalist. Anyone can push a regular car to the ragged edge and even past and bring it back but great handling cars once past the ragged edge of adhesion often cannot be retrieved by mere mortals:steeringwheel::ohmy:

Couple that with many people I am sure are stepping into an Elise or Exige quite used to whizzmo ghizzmo driver aids like traction control... nope. Not there... the driver actually has to have some ability with real cars. So you get...

Weeeee.... blammoooo!

That Esprit V8 belonged to Jonathon from LEF.

The Evora driver escaped with only a broken foot so I understand.

I suspect if one crashes a Lotus 7 (or replicar Stalker V6 like mine) you don't get a second chance ;(

With luck lightweights like us might just get punted out of the way:001_unsure:

This was a recent OUCH! (http://lotusenthusiast.net/2009/08/head-on-crash-between-elise-and-miata-in-scca-race.html) involving an Elise and a Miata.

No.8 Lotus Sport 350 UK based Esprit has just recently gone up in smoke. A collapsed cat caused the fire. Out of respect to the owner I am not going to post pics but car is at Lotus and the owner posted pics on his FB account and another site.

If insurance pays out it could cost upwards of 40K pounds to repair. :crying:

I feel sick :(

Gawd, that one got burned up pretty horribly.:(

It is at the very least a good idea to carry an Halon or AFFF fire Extinguisher in any Lotus.

Even a powder one is better than nothing, but sometimes even the best extinguishers cant save a car If the fire is bad enough.

All the forums Esprit owners suddenly decide to fix their oil leaks, old fuel lines and leaking carbs / fuel injector to fuel rail seals...................

I'm quite amazed the Techno Magnesio wheels didn't go up on that Sport 350, magnesium burns like a torch.

 That didn't take long! Looks like quite a shunt, too!

There are rumors flying about that the crash was the work of Top Gear staff...

http://lotusenthusiast.net/2009/07/red-lotus-evora-crashes-into-vw.html

I can confirm EVO Mag was not involved.

It was a shame AU09 AKZ was pranged up as it has had some great photographs taken of it up in Scotland and may have been a sought after car by collectors in the future.

Hopefully the factory can glue it back together.:)

Here it is not so long ago.

The Aston survived the treacherous roads only to be trashed by....stupidity.

Hey Wayne, excellent pics of the Evora getting squirrelly in the rain!

And the pic of the Esprit, I guess I never thought about how it would look if the fiberglass just started to melt. Wow
