Exactly how bad is your crank?

I am presuming you have spun a rod bearing?

There are a few companies that specialise in repairing rare, expensive damaged crankshafts.

As you probably know, new these cranks are rather expensive!

Good point, Wayne. 9XX main and rod bearing shells are available in 0.010" and 0.020" undersize ID's expressly for the purpose of allowing damaged crank journals to be re-ground. Similarly, the main bearing shells are available with 0.015" oversize OD's are to allow the block's main bore to be machined oversized as required.

However, if a bearing was spun, then sufficient heat could have been generated to ruin the temper of the parts. The rods may be more sensitive to heat damage than the crank. If they've turned blue from the heat, talk with your machinist about their viability for being remanufactured.

Lotus no longer provides the original Vandervell bearing shells for the 9XX engines, but most of the independent Lotus vendors have found alternate sources. JAE has commissioned a run of all the standard over and under sized shells and can take care of your needs.

If the crank and rods are truly toast and you need new parts, then Lotusbits in the UK sells used Lotus parts. So does Sports Car World in the USA, but they shut down for the sale of the company and subsequent move, and I don't think they're up and running again, yet.

New parts may still be available if you shop around enough, but take a deep breath... they're not cheap.

Good luck,
Tim Engel

I dread to think what the shipping would be on that used crank from England.:crying:

As Tim so accurately illustrated replacement would be a final option after exploring other more localised alternatives.

You can buy some of the Lotus Part (http://www.thepartsbin.com/guides/lotus/super_seven.html)s here : www.thepartsbin.com/guides/lotus/super_seven.html . They have durable materials and also affordable too. I hope this might help you. I don't know if they have shipping services and how much would be the cost though.

Yorkars,

Try www.jensenhealey.com. They carry new 2.2 cranks at $1795.00.

Open the website and go under society market place. When the page opens look at the first paragraph and click on Club Store. Scroll to the bottom of the page, you will find the ad for brand new crankshafts, click on it and the page will open.

Good luck....
