Lotus has just released details of a 'Endurance Racing" version of the Evora, labled a type 124.

Looks like the factory will compete in some selected events with the cars in 2010(no North Ameriacan events announced though).

The spoilers, ground effect panels and diffusers really give the thing an all business hairy look, and of course enable it to stick to the track better:yes:

No supercharger in the engine compartment (yet) though, but the Toyota engine is "race tuned" and can put out as much as 400ps (about 395 bhp) which should get the job reliably done, but Cameron and some others will be dissapointed to hear that the transmission is a 6 speed sequential paddle shift type.

Heres all the published specs http://www.lotus-central.com/index.php/en/news/282-lotus-evora-type-124-endurance-racecar.html

I like their selection of car number.. 124. it has a little bit of Doc, David and Andy all wrapped up in the number.

1 - Doc's number was 10
2 - Andy Pilgrims number was 12
4 - Murry's number was 14.

the old school clutch is out of racing... that is the way of things. I am good with it for racing as most drivers today would not have the style needed to make a clutch work.

I like it. I hope it spanks the field. Maybe they can get Doc or Andy to drive it? They need rides... and it certainly would not hurt the marketing.

Looks fantastic! Glad to see Lotus didn't waste any time racing it. Will be interested to see what class it's in / what it's up against.

Do you recon it's just a marketing ploy then?

Even if it's club events, that'll do.

The blurb in Autocar mag says:

Lotus says it intends to compete in the 2010 ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hours in May 2010, Merdeka Millennium 12 Hours in Malaysia in August 2010, BritCar 24 Hours at Silverstone in October 2010 and the Dubai 24 Hours in January 2011.

I read this... but I still won't make the bet. I always loose.
On the flip side I am pumped and hope they get some state side dates. After all, the states is where they need to be focused on getting back some brand recognition. I wanna see them run Daytona, Sebring, or other such venues!

Of course its going to race, didn't Mike Kimberley hint that the factory would be getting back into racing?

Good old Mike, he kept his word.:)

I have no idea how competitive it will be as I havent figured out what class it will be running and what its opposition will be yet.

As for coming to the USA, I would think so as it would make sense to publicise the model for the up and coming USA release of the car, and I would think they are looking for some enterprising privateer to fund and run a team right now.

Given the reported specs, it is not THAT far behind the F430 believe it or not. A little, but in a GT2 run it appears that it could put on a decent show.

Perhaps Clarkson was correct in stating that even though this car is not in the same class, it does not stop you from realizing it is almost as good - and better when the price of entry is figured into the mix.

The more I look at it, the more I love it! Really looks the business.

And it makes a great Wallpaper too.

I'm surprised it doesnt have any lower cooling ducts down on the sills(rocker panels) for brake and engine compartment cooling, but I suspect they are holding them back for the rumoured supercharged version.:)

The gearbox does have a clutch (for starts) I think they are using this Quaife gearbox, with an pneumatic paddle shift conversion.
