Hi everybody,

I am french and first of all,I apologize for my very bad english and hope you will understand what I mean.
I am the owner of a very nice lotus esprit V8 CALYPSO RED and i like a lot this car
it a 40.000 kms now and i bought it to 25.000 kms
Always a big pleasure with this car.

I have actually a probleme with my Lotus very difficult to solve and I gone try to explain you expecting one of you could have been faced to the same issue and could help me.

When the car is very hot after many milles and I turn the ignition off and try immediatly or 2 minutes later tio start again the engine impossible to do it.
This problem is only when the car is very hot if not IO can start again without any problem!!

I open the door of the engine in order to let the heat to go out and when all is colder the engine start without any problem!!!

My garage think there is a part on the car who cut the injection of fuel or something like that or could be also to much fuel in the cylinders when i tryu to start again the engine

To be honest we do not know what to do and your help is welcome because I hope some of you could have already had this issue

hope you ahev understand what i mean
thanks for your help

Sounds like your injectors are leaking fuel when the engine is shut off.

This causes the engine to flood and makes it difficult to start when hot.

You can test for this by connecting a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail Schrader valve and watching to see If the pressure falls when the engine is shut down.

You can try cleaning the injectors with a good cleaning solvent (by disabling the fuel pump and running the engine on the solvent which is connected via the fuel rail Schrader valve) or failing that replace all 8 injectors.

I'm pretty sure Lotus used Rochester (GM) injectors on the V8 Esprit, which are renoun for leaking and causing hot start problems.

You need to get the problem solved ASAP or you will burn your starter motor out with all the cranking you are having to do.

Bonjour to the forum BTW.:)

Hi Jean, welcome to the forum. You will have to share some pics of the beast :)

Dont panic there are a few quick checks your local mechanic can do for you.

The temp sensors are prone to failure. A lotus mechanic with an OBD-2 scanner or Tech-1 can check this.

Yes, it also could be a leaking injector. The secondary injectors are known for bad O-rings and leaking. Please check both secondary injectors and have a close look at the inner O-rings.

I got this procedure below off a friend Mike that knows his stuff that I have kept for future reference. There is a special TPS triggered ECU procedure to clearing a flodded engine - maybe you can try this to see if it is likely to be a "leaky injector":

Hold the throttle fully open and crank the engine
The ECU will shut off all injectors as long as the engine speed is less than approx. 650 rpm
After you have cranked the engine for 10-20 seconds, release the throttle and try starting the enigne as normal

If you starting problem persists, then it is not likely to be related to the injectors.

Hope this helps
:)
