Greetings all,
Have decided to put up for sale my 88 Esprit project. I'll be happy to answer all questions, but overall...
I've had the car 5 years. Have never once tried to start it. My thought was to first check the timing and throw a new timing belt on it so I knew where I was starting from. Well never go to it.
When I traded for the car the PO said that it ran but not very well. There are a couple of post-it notes in the service manual saying 70.2% at start-up, drops 2.1% after 4 minutes and idles poorly. I don't know what those numbers are refering too, but obviously someone who knows these cars does. This leads me to believe that there isn't anything major wrong with the internals of the engine, but I have not done a leakdown or compression test either.
There are also a couple notes about the gearbox hinting around the fifth gear synchro...since I've obvioulsy never driven the car, I don't know if it has that problem or they fixed it or...??
It could be spot painted, but there are so many different panels that need attention it would be best to do the whole thing.
Interior could be lived with with a few touch ups...carpet is descent and seats could be left, leaving the door panels healiner and stuff like that to be recoverd. But if it's to be done right you'd want to redo the seats correctly
and pretty much go through the whole thing.
Make no mistake, it's an overall total project...I'd hate to see it, but would be an excellent "part out" since everything is there.
I have the rear decklid, wing and an extra rear lid glass, and timing belt I bought 5 years ago.
Could make a nice club racer....???
I have more pics for those seriously interested
$8500
Will deliver within an 8 hr radius of Duluth, MN for $.35/mile.
Thanks, Scott
