Former Team Lotus principle Peter Warr died yesterday October 5th. ,of an heart attack .
Peter Warr joined Lotus 52 years ago in 1958 initially as a salesman, he enjoyed a carrear as a racing driver and had actually had a GP win at the first Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit , 1963 driving his Lotus 23.
In 1970, Colin Chapman promoted him to Team Manager where without doubt the discapline and organisation skills that had been intilled in him during his earlier carrear in the Army came into play.
Jochen Rindt won the championship posthumously in 1970, and other drivers he was involved with were Ronnie Peterson,Mario Andretti, Gunnar Nillson, James Hunt, Jody Schecter.
Leaving Lotus for Canadian Walter Wolfs F1 team in 1977, but returned to Lotus in 1981, taking over as team principle on Colin Chapmans sudden passing in 1982., he is probably the most well known for signing a young Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna to team Lotus.
He retired from team Lotus in 1989, taking up a position with the sports governing body the FIA .
After retiring from the FIA he lived in France with his wife.
Sadly he never published his memoirs, I get the impression he had some facinating stories to tell.
