:steeringwheel: Saturday 12/08/2007. :steeringwheel:

We have not done this in a while so the next club meet sounds like a good time to get the toys out, head west for some twisty roads, apple fritters :mf_dribble:, a visit to the Stirling McCall car museum and lunch at Roiters in Round Top, (home to some impossible to resist pies!).
Last time we did this we were invited to visit one of the few U.S. registered castles, owned and built by the Bellville Bakery's proprieter. It's been a while, maybe we'll get to see how construction has progressed.
We will meet at Star Motor cars at 9:00am. Head west and have our apple fritter and coffee stop at the Bellville Bakery ,at the intersection of Hgwy. 36 and FM159. We will have our regular Saturday meeting there as well.
From there we will take some fun backroads out to Round Top for a stop at a really neat car museum and then head out to Roiters resturant for a late lunch.
More fun roads can be had after lunch or folks can head home as they please.

Hope to see you there.

Al "phonse" B.

p.s. remember to bring your camera 'cause you just never know what's gonna pop up. :icon18:

If you paste this link it will take to a photo album of the outting.
A good turn out, the weather stayed dry, and everyone had too much to eat.
The roads were clear and clean and no problems to speak of occurred.

Hoping you win the lottery and come join us on the next run.:steeringwheel:

The castle was built by and belongs to the owner of the bakery, where we met for breakfast. It is his home. I stop at the bakery regularly when out having fun on the bike or in the car. One day the owner started talking to me and eventually the story of his castle came out.
On one of our Lotus club rides we stopped in at the bakery and after a bit of chat and fritters the owner got to ride in several of the Loti. In return for the favor he took us out to see his castle.
I think we have him interested in trading in his Mitsubishi for an Elise.

The museum used to host a variety of great old cars and Houston memorabilia.
Recently the owner sold off everything that was non Cadillac and stocked up with what you saw in the photos.
The neatest car in there, in my opinion, was the 1914 Cadillac that was made for use in England and driven into the museum by it's present owner, who used to drive it regularly in the U.K. before moving to the states.
Along with all the brass and copper bits it has a gear driven compressor built onto the motor which was used to pump up the tires if needed.
It also had dual distributors with two plugs per coffee can cylinder. The cylinders are sort of free standing and look like bells bolted to the block base. I haven't a clue as to how they were cooled.
Not shabby for a turn of the century car.
The interior was a treat as well. To the left of the steering wheel, (car was built with right hand drive), was a jump seat facing rearwards. The windshield was made up of a large vertical flat piece center and two curved sections to either side which gave it a bay window effect.
It was really neat to see how things were engineered back then with the materials and technology that was available at the time. Even more so when you consider that there were no computers handy to help with the design.
With all the cars there, old to new, it's a great way to see how Cadillac has progressed, or digressed depending on your viepoint, over the years.

It also makes one appreciate the engineering of the day when things were thought out with slide rules , pencil, and paper.
