Drooling over the AC Ford Coupe, Lightweight Etype and the Ferralac.:)
Dunno but did anyone else on here know Colin Chapman designed the Vanwall?
Didnt that AC cause a stink when it was clocked on the M1 at over 160mph (before the 70mph limit came in?)

Designed for them, sure. Hell, he even drove for them too. Qualified the 4th car at Spa, in '57 I think.
When I met Hazel last year at Snetterton I asked here about it. She said that she told Colin that he didn't need to do everything for his clients. Designing the cars hould be enough. He should draw the line somewhere. He didn't have to drive the cars for them as well!

Just noticed I left the p out of Chapman duh!
There used to be a Vanwall on display at the Donnington Collection, beautiful car.
Yes Colin Chapman was renouned as a good race car driver, he once raced in an Ford Escort Mexico celebrity race in 1971 featuring F1 Team owners / managers and was winning until his engine let go and Jack Brabham won.

Great pics Clockwork. Is that a Shelby Daytona? The front looks different to the standard blue car I saw at FOS a few years ago.

No Mark, that is the re-built original AC coupe that was the works entry for `64,the one that Jack Sears was alledgedly clocked at 185 on the M1 but in the race disaster struck and it collided with Babhetti`s Ferrari and resulting in the death of three spectators but on a happier note it looked well.:)

Amazing to think that Derek Gardener designed that car at home and built the first wooden mock up of the monocoque in his one car garage at in total secrecy.
Even more amazing that the actual cars were built in a wooden shed at Ken Tyrrells woodyard.
I heard that Tyrrell nut John Delane bought the actual shed and had it shipped to America.

Yes Wayne he probably did buy the shed,he has some nice Lotus-izzz,that Tyrrell belongs to him as well as chassis 001,that one is 002 and when he bought it off Mr.T. he promised him he would never sell it or race it so he keeps it at Donnington ,his other cars all race in Rob Walker`s colours. :)
