HI all I am about to buy a lotus i am looking at a Elise can any one give me any tips on what to look for Thanks

The body is pretty straight forward - look for the usual dents and scrapes you might look for with anything. If the car has all the history and you think you can trust the owner... go for it. Take a drive (or have someone do it for you if the car you locate is out of your area) and "feel" the car a bit. Also, if you can, find a trusted shop or dealer and pay the price to have the computer hooked up and get the engine history. This will tell you if the car has been over reved a lot etc... There are more than a few folks out there that bought one, then decided getting in and out was not for them...
