Do many of you watch the T.V. shows that secretly take your car (leaving you to think it's been stolen) then give it back to you after they have "fixed it up"?
I have noticed the cars they tackle are mainly simple US domestic types, maybe they don't do exotics because they tend to be more complicated and need alot more specialist knowledge to make a decient job of them (in a short space of time)?
What do you think?

I like the design aspect that Overhaulings Mr. Chip Foose puts into the cars he overseas. He is obviously a fussy guy and I cant imagine him allowing any questionable work in the cars his show puts there name on.
On the other hand the MTV pimp your ride cars look like they are just thrown together by a bunch of bafoons, not much evidence of good taste, quality workmanship or decient design on that show!
What would you do If your car was taken by them and after you got it back you found is was cosmetically OK, but mechanically was awful?

I would love to have Foose involved, but not Grand Master Flex.
I would let Foose take my muscle car and put a blower on it, but not a lotus.
Chip does good work.

I've always thought it was a riot that on Pimp my crap car you have a car all slapped together with expensive rims and gadgets inside with a "bitchin" new paint job and the car is probably going to be stuck on the side of the road tommorrow because it still just as big of a pile of crap mechanically as it was before.:roadblock:

I like the "Power Block" shows on Speed. Then they re-run them on Spike TV later in the week...
Two Guys Garage
American Muscle Car
Dream Car Garage
Trucks
Extreme 4X4
My Classic Car
Car Crazy
... a great line up for car junkies like me. Pimp My ride... funny in a stupid way and I can only watch it for a short time. I laughed my butt off when Xzibit went to get a crap car, opened up the door, and he startled these two racoons in the car! They came flying out and Xzibit almost wet his pants! but I really think of it as a poor car show and more of a 5 minute laugh. I'd like it if Speed would put together a show for say a three year run that was only exotics and roadsters!
Overhaulin is awsome as well - big fan.

Like the shows Cameron mentioned also, I used to LOVE a show done by Spike called Carpocalypse. Anybody seen or heard of it? It was all filmed at the Gainesville Speedway in FL i believe. Awesome stuff... figure 8 racing, boat trailer racing, campers... you name it, they destroyed it.
Pimp my ride is plain stupid. I hate that style of HUGE rims and a lame graphic paint job...
I love Overhauling. Chip Foose is a very high quality builder and i would definitely trust him with my vehicles. My wife tried to get my 240Z "Overhauled" she sent pictures and a bio, but mine wasn't picked because of rust issues... go figure... I never heard of rust on a 240Z!

Isn't Carcopalypse that show wher the drivers are all married to their cousins, use 20lb. hammers to tune there cars, and still have at least 3 of their own teeth?

YUP!!! Classic hillbilly racing!!!
One guy... had his hand crushed by a transmission. He refused to go to the Hospital... So he took a huge amount of pain killers followed by a bottle of Jack Daniels, and drove to the track expecting to race!!! He couldn't even stand.
Anybody follow riding lawnmower racing? The Modifieds hit about 90!!!
I like extreme 4X4. mmmmmm Jessi!!!!!!!!!:001_tt1: Pimp my ride and Unique Whips are a joke. Quality work is not done in half the time it would normally take without short cuts. It would be nice to have a show about exotic or sports cars. I love a good GTO or Cuda, but I would like something different.
Cheers

Nope, but I have raced one! an old Yard Man - hey, it was green and gold. we altered it to burn alcohol and even tried to super charge it! It was funny as hell and would go quite fast (at least when you were on it it felt fast!)

Not that I can lay hands on. It was pre digital days and there is a couple boxes of photos missing from the last move. Shame really because some of the missing photos are of track days, auto cross events, and Sebring, etc...
It is lost to memory I am afraid. Not sure if anyone else has any photos of it still around... but I'll ask em'.

I like Chip Foose, Dad met him in person when he went to his factory to visit and Chip happend to be handy, which was awesome for Dad. They both got talking and Chip was really interested about Dads projects and invited him back to his office for a chat etc. Chip did a picture of dads challenger foose style signed it and gave it to dad. He was well chuffed and such a nice bloke. Hes very talented. Dads still got it rolled up in a cardboard canister. He sooo needs to get that out and frame it!!!
That biker build off show isnt bad but some of the guys that get on that show really are the bottom of the barrel.
Pimp my ride is hideous but good if you need a laugh

I remember reading about Chip Foose in Hot Rod magazine back in the early 80's.
He had a nice blue 1969 Firebird that he had "Foosified" and was working for Boyd Coddington as a Hot Rod and wheel designer. Alot of people don't know that he designed a hell of a lot of the stuff that Mr.Coddington took credit for.
Great to see his has become successfull in his own right, and has become a household name.

It had to happen eventually I suppose.
Flicking through the channels this morning I came across a show called "Car Wars" with Funkmaster Flex, and normally I would have carried on surfing but noticed they have a Lotus Esprit V8 on the show.
The premise of the show is for 4 New Jersey based teams to "Pimp Out" a car and see who can Impress the Flex the most (for a $10G prize).
So far the Esprit has recieved a huge stereo system, blacked out lights, a tribal paint job (shades of blue) some sort of fake missle system (because its a Bond car ) , a fitted Gold champagne bucket and 2 gold goblets (see above)
and of course rubber band tyres and huge shiny rims. Next up is a front mounted "spy kit" that comprises of a tuxedo shirt and bow tie, and a Walther PPK and cleaning kit.
Sorry , regretfully I havent got the imagination to have made this up.:crying:
Heres the only photo I could find of it.

Did you lose your breakfast, Wayne? That sounds hideous! So I wonder how much they devalued that Esprit.. It'll probably cost $20K to restore her back to originally designed.

Luckily for me Greg, I hadn't had my brecky yet or It would have been a bad scene.
I am hoping some of the 50lbs of extra stereo wiring would short out and put the poor thing out of its misery.

How totally stupid! what the hell can you do with a "fake" missle system??? come on then, put in a real one. It really would not be hard for 10K... and a "PPK cleaning kit", what exactly is a PPK cleaning kit. I own 4 PPKs and 3 PP's and I do not have a specific cleaning kit? In fact that "cleaning kit" I do own cleans several pistols... How's about putting a real PPK in the car to go with that kit? What do you with just a "cleaning kit"? AND if you going to put those wheels on it I really think they should be spinners.
Last thing... WTF??? now I'm done ranting...

Yeah I love Overhaulin'. But personally like the originality of most Lotus models so possibly it's not for them.
