The Turbo Esprit is a true classic in my opinion too.:001_smile:

I was over in the garage where I store my car in the winter yesterday, with a couple of guys who had never seen it before.

They were genuinely blown away with its appearance , but were kinda puzzled why such a great looking car would be worth relitively little when compared with other exotic cars from its era.

Looks=great

Performance=excellent

Production numbers =low

Relyability=no worse than its competion

Wow Factor=high

Fame Factor= good (it was a Bond car)

Beats me as to why they are such a bargain!

I must admit, I had difficulty answering that question.

I agree on all accounts. It really makes no sense. I rarely see any Esprits in my neck of the woods. But when I do, they are just so unique. I get blown away. They still look so good, so special.

That is a very nice one indeed. Not my color choice, but still fantastically well preserved.

Makes me sad too. Should be level with the Ferrari 308GTB at least. Maybe if the Lotus name some how goes up in the world . . .

It is getting there. Currently I have seen some Esprits going up to the mid 20's and the 308GTB/s have dropped down to the high 20's... Almost there...
The Countach has dropped a bit in the past year as well, but now seems to be climbing a bit again...

In the UK the 308GTB is double to the price of the Esprit Turbo. Good Ferrari 308GTB's are fetching £22k to £25k now and the 328 is even more. Glad to hear it's better in the States.

I helped a friend buy a Rosso Ferrari 308 GTS last summer , its a 1980 carb model with a slightly scruffy Guallo Modena interior and in need of some TLC (cambelts, service etc) Little rust on the door bottoms (common on them)
It also is in need of some decient tyres (presently has SR rated BFG radial T/A's on it)

He paid $32,000 CDN, which is a good deal up here in Canada for a 308.

My car will blow its doors off however (and looks alot nicer)!:thumbup:

Well it does.:)

My friend is Itallian and is a fully paid up member of the Tifosi, so owning a Ferrari has been a lifelong dream for him.

His house is a shrine to Ferrari, he even gets away with having all his Ferrari art and memrobilia on display in the lounge.

Im not allowed to have any car stuff out in the house.:crying:

But my office is bursting with car stuff.:lol:

Right now, litterally, the 308GTS with less then 50K miles are running in the 32-34K USD range. But, I have seen a few very good examples with 70K miles for 23K - 27K USD. If you look hard you can find geed 308 examples for a really good price. A friend of mine just bought a 45K mile car for 31K USD... no rust, complete tool kit, all history, etc...

My garage is a temple... and my house def. has a good bit of car stuff in it... Wayne, you need to slowly start adding a little here and a little there. Over time it will just accumulate like "her" shoes... hahahaha....

Prices here have shot up recently.

I was reading about the 308 GTB this morning in Classic Cars magazine (April edition - great article) and it's 0-60 time is 7.5 seconds and top speed 145mph. So a hot hatch could waste one then!

They are all about style not speed. They are also 25 years old and older now... did you ever see that Top Gear where they ran an Aston Martin against a Civic (or something like it)... it made a good point regarding age and style vs. speed... To quote James May, "You can't get laid as easily driving a Honda vs. an Aston can you?".

They still look fast though. I suppose why everyone is shocked to hear they have a 4 cylinder. It just does not register with people. They are classics though and do have great style!
