As many of you know, I like Maseratis.
I recently discovered that they are taking off like a bullet. They have sky rocketed in pricing for the GT cars and I am now made keenly aware of this as I am trying to help an Italian friend import one to Italy as the Euro is strong and they are more expensive there.
I have to say though that I am glad that they are finally getting the respect that they are due.
Take this Bora for example:
They want $98,000.00 and it's not even perfect.

And on the extreme end I found a 1970 Mistral Spyder (last one ever built) for $345,000 !!!!!

I have always liked them Martin, and you are dead right now alot of the classic Ferraris values have stratospherically risen, people are thinking about the old neglected Maser's that could be picked up pretty reasonably (last year).
Maseratis were always bought new by guys who were more individualistic than the typical Ferrari owner , and were not bothered that the Maseratis were the same price (or more) than an equivilent Ferrari.
As you kmow, my fave is the Ghandini-Bertone styled Khamsin, and I suppose I should have bought one 3 years ago when they were $15,000 cars (but it would have ment selling the Lotus to swing it)
They are $30,000(rough) to $120,000 (mint. no miles) today.
The only drawback to them is the parts are very expensive to buy(Ferrari/Lamborghini money) so they are not a car that can be restored correctly on the cheap.
The Ghibli is also a total knockout IMO.
This is the very one I drove to California to have a look at.

Good point. Maserati was more of a competitor to Ferrari but they always were a bit more on the luxury GT side of the market. Much in the same way that the Quattroporte 1 was actually more expensive then the competing Rolls Royce of that time.

I have always liked the relationship Giugiaro has had with Maserati and some of the stunning showcars they have collaborated on.
The Boomerang of 1972 is probably my favourite, shown here with the ItalDesign and large Maserati trident on its hood (which has been sadly left off in subsiquent repaints of the car) Apparently , there is a statue of Neptune in the square in Bologna (Maseratis home town) and Mario Maserati choose the trident as a logo because of said statue.

Is the Merak going up in the value too in the States?

Seem to be edging up a little; but nothing like the UK or Europe. Prices on Masers and Ferraris are really high on that side of the pond? You would think that it should be the other way around?

Wayne, did you know that the trident logo is the only thing Mario ever contributed to the brother's Maserati business. Not a bad thing to contribute however since it is now so well known. He was an artist and had no interest in mechanics.
