Well, as some of you know in passing, a good friend of mine has recently been bitten by the most dreadful of all bugs... the Lotus bug. Now he has the near uncontrolable desire to buy an Esprit.

To that end, he offers up his 1979 Ferrari 308GTS to any interested person(s). I am very familiar with this car (having had it myself a while back) and I describe this car as a good looking great driver. The C service was completed last weekend (belts, tensioners, etc... all in the records) and the service history is complete back to the original owner of the car. The asking price is $36,500USD. The car has just shy of 49K miles on it.

If you want a Ferrari that you can drive with no worries... this is a great car. The paint is good and the seats are good. The car will need the valve lash set by next year as it is in the tight side of tolerance and although the car drives nice, the tie rods and rack are showing some age. However, if you want a Ferrari to take to a California concourse contest and sit in your gargage so you can say you have a Ferrari... this is not the car for you. Locally, the car has won a few car show trophies...

If you might be interested and would like some photos and details, feel free to shoot me an e-mail or give the current owner a call:

I'd drive this one to you with no worries. The only time they were not reliable was, like Lotus, when owners tried to cut corners on service. I liked it... Karl likes it too... but he owns a mortgage business (not great these days) - and like me cannot afford a Ferrari and an Esprit.

Well I wish him best of luck selling his prized possesion but he'll be very happy making the switch when it happens. The Esprit is a hobby car though and must not be mistaken for a cheaper running car esp. We all know how they can sometimes leave us broke !! Its worth it though

Well, he drove my Esprit a little while ago and he really - really liked it. As stated, he cannot afford both. That said, I must admit that the Esprit is much easier price wise to keep up. Ferrari is plain crazy with some things. We just did the C service on this car and things like valve cover gaskets are higher than they should be. I got the new ones, and like I did with the Esprit, took them over to a gasket manufactring place here in town and had 20 made for the price of 1 using the new one as a template. So there are ways to save. But he really liked the Esprit... like the rest of us I suppose.

I think the 308 and Esprit could not be more different. The 308 and Esprit are both timeless and classic designs. The 308s are twice as valuable as an Esprit, but not as rare. I considered an Esprit and drove dozens of them, I still want a S1 in my collection. I am a little biased as I own a 308, but have owned a Lotus years ago.

I do agree and it is often a topic of discussion in my house... how different they are. For me they would be hard to compare without writting a lot of information as it is almost apples to oranges. I would like to have one in a collection one day - but as stated - I cannot afford a collection and I am a Lotus guy to the core! I was one of so many that were not born into a family that could spport my habbits, I do not look like any of those sexy pop stars, I cannot sing, and pro sports is out. So for now I am stuck with just one...
