As I see that we got quite a few new members over the weekend, I wanted to start this thread as a way of making it simple for new members to get a 1st post on the forum and introduce themselves. Everyone here is very welcoming and we love to hear from enthusiasts with or without a Lotus. It's simple, if you are a fan of anything Lotus, we want you here. :) Welcome!

I have noticed many members "lurking" lately. I want to just send out another warm welcome for anyone to introduce themselves. You don't have to have a Lotus (just look at me now), you just have to be a fan. Anyone new out there want to share how they became smitten with Lotus?

Feel free and post, we're a friendly bunch of Lotus nuts. :)

I agree with Martin you should make yourself heard!:)

Dont worry about spelling and grammer, we all make mistakes, and the moderators can always fix things up .

We all started posting at sometime, and believe me my early works were nothing to write home about (much like my current ones), but the more you do it the easier it gets.

Hi Tpup and welcome to the forum.:)

Nice looking S1 Esprit, did you install those modular wheels and that rear louvre?

I have never seen an S1 with an aftermarket rear louvre before, who made it?

Martin

Roy, it's martin here. I love that Esprit. I remember you telling me about it when you were in my garage during New Year's eve at my house. I've been wondering what it looked like ever since!

Welcome to LotusBuzz Roy!
Great looking S1! :mf_dribble:
Orange is a very suiting color for an Esprit. I like the louvre.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. My plan was to post a pic of each Lotus I have owned, each day, until I get to my current one. I'll check with Martin and see if that's better here or in the one Lotus pic per day section.

The car in question is a 77 S1 that I purchased in 1980 from the original owner. He was a big Jaguar collector in Dallas; he had a garage full of Jags and one Lotus. That particular car was on display at the theatre that premiered "The Spy Who Loved Me". That's when I first saw an Esprit in person, and that car, for the first time. I was very excited to buy it 3 years later with 11K miles on her.

I spent a lot of money and time on that car, the engine was rebuilt, by one of the best guys in the business. All emissions were removed, a weber intake was put on it, and it was balanced and ported. It ran like a top! I also put on aftermarket suspension (I don't remember which) and the 3 piece Gotti wheels you see on the car. I don't remember who made the rear louver but it was helpful in the Texas heat. It was a great car that started my love affair with Lotus. A friend in Dallas still owns that car today so I get to see it every once in a while.

Tomorrow, I'll post pics of my S2 Esprit ;)

Hey Roy, sorry I didn't know what you were up too. I am posting pics from the Lotus PR library in that section, but you are more than welcome to post it there or just as well in this section. Can't wait to see the S2.

After the S1 caught on fire in front of the house, during a block party, it went back to the shop for a long stay. I went to the dark side and bought a Ferrari that I drove for 6 months and then sold as part of a business deal. The guy I was dealing with really liked the Ferrari so I included it in the deal to get it done. I then picked up another Ferrari that I traded to a Rolls dealer; his wife really wanted the car. The result of the trade; a nice 1980 S2 ;)

That car was really bad, something was wrong with it damn near every day. The bigger problem is that I was in Miami by then and didn't have a good mechanic. After a couple of years I sold it to a nice drug dealer. I met him in a parking lot where he gave me $5K in cash as a deposit. I don't think the hugh guy with him, wearing a surgery outfit, was a doctor... About a month later I was feeling good thinking that he was killed or something. I had the $5K and the car... Then out of the blue, he showed up at the office with a Disney shopping bag, full of cash. Other than a counterfeit $50, it was all good and the car was his...

ps. Kylie, no I've put on a few pounds since that pic :)

Roys story about the how he was paid for his S2 reminded me of something similar that happened to me once.

I had done some work for a rather well known British racing driver and was paid in full with some cash that he conveniently had on hand.

A week later he made the newspapers after the police had raided his place of business and caught him with a large amount of counterfiet pounds sterling.

I was sweating there for a while as I had already deposited the money in the bank, thankfully I never heard anymore about it.:sweatdrop:

A few years after selling my S2, I was driving through Sacramento California and saw a Lotus dealer. I pulled in and on the floor was a 85 Turbo with a deep discount. A couple of weeks and $43K later, I was driving it home. I drove that car daily for many months and then turned it into my weekend car. Did a lot of performance mods and turned that car into a beast. There was one night, driving from Seattle to Portland, that I got into it with a 928S4 and saw over 150mph... It was a great car.

The high speed run was late at night, no traffic just me and the other guy... I don't do that anymore expect on a track :)

ps. How can I put the pic in the post full size?

About a month ago I emailed Martin to find out why he had been absent from the forum and he basically answered that he just no longer presently has the time to devote to contributing and generally running the place, so to cut it short he offered me the admin job which I accepted.

I am still learning about how the forum is configured and am planning on doing a few things to greatly simplify and update the appearance of the place.

As you know this is one of, If the smallest Lotus forum on the internet and to be honest I think it may be smart to keep it that way!

Dont worry, I wont be selling tee shirts and merchandise on here nor will I encourage conflict or arguements which seems to be the way alot of other forums like to operate.

If you have any thoughts , opinions or suggestions about the above feel free to comment as I believe that this place should continue run in an democratic and open fashion.

I just want to thank Martin Dyhr for all that he has done , he is a great guy and I am sure one day he will be back as an active member of the forum and the Lotus community.

Cheers Mate!
